After so much debate, investigative, fabricating and bashing about being born in America or not, I think it’s about time that our congress take up this issue in such serious ways, and even amend it to reflect the true realities of our age. The idea that one has to be born in America, to be a president, is simply erroneous , in the sense that it denies some Americans the right to seek the office. I doubt if the forefathers foresaw a time when American soldiers would have to move to Germany or Korea with his family, and while there, give birth to children. When an American independent contractor could settle in any remote part of the world and have children and later return to America with these children. Or even further, an American family could be on vacation outside of the country and give birth to a child. Does any of these possibilities make these children less of Americans, and therefore prohibit them from aspiring to run for the office of the presidency? I do not think it should, and it’s about time we amend the constitution to include all children of American citizens, and maybe include clauses that require them to have lived continuously in America 30 yrs or so prior to running for this office. The constitution holds that a child born by an American citizen is equally a citizen, if I am right. Times have changed and births can happen anywhere. We cannot discriminate against any American simply because his or her mother was not within the territory when he or she slid out of the womb.

The problem with president Obama.

In many nations, where tyranny and oppression are the dual weapons of their leaders, the arrival of a president like Obama would have been a welcome relief and a saving grace. Due to the very nature of our politics and system of government, our leaders have not been that tyrannical. But leaders being what they are, some of our past presidents have, in the absence of oppression, devised many ways of achieving their selfish and narrow agenda through deception, leaving government without accomplishing much that is worthy of representing the will nor wish of the average Joe and Jane.

In the case of president Obama, in my humble opinion, he is the most genuine and first, true honest president, America has had in decades. And that seems to be his problem. Many presidents have campaigned and paid lip service to the issues surrounding the average American, but he, against the mighty influence of big corporation, has chosen to stand up for the Joes and Janes. He has demonstrated it by his policies, statements and fights. for corporate world that has a long tradition of corruption and public exploitation, a true, genuine president would be their worst enemy. This underscores the well known “cut throat” style of business. To them, a president like Obama stands in their way of continued exploitation. They desire to return to those days when they could easily bilk the American consumers and the president would either look the other way or pay lip service to curbing their excesses.

That is why they are sabotaging his administration and funding propaganda messages to the very poor he is attempting to protect. Glen Beck, even with his conservative views, could not help but lament yesterday about the sabotage of the economy. A new president working for the very poor, is being literally blackmailed by “Big Business” before the same poor, misleading them to think he is against them, when his actions show differently, and we are too dumb to see who is really on our side and who trully wants too see meaningful changes in America. Saving us from exploitation, in the amount of $32 billion, per year, from banks, should be greeted with great gratitude and not further discrediting, generated from “Big Business”. This is a major change. Those who have eyes, let them see.

New financial Reform.

Long time ago, the cat, for political expediency, left the house, and the mouse, since then, have been having field day foraging and almost ate the house down. That is what we are facing today. That is why you and I are out of work, broke and basically hopeless. For years, wall street has been without a serious watchdguard, left to engage in all sorts of business dealings and gambling. It made bets that the Republican government ignored because it was their highest donor. Essentially, the Republican party has been widely known to defend the corporate interests, against the interests of Americans. Its members are secretly meeting these big money makers, on their knees, begging for money to defeat any Democratic party effort to check the excesses of Wall Street. Excesses that brought our economy down. It is well known that our present financial predicament started when Wall street actions impacted the”Housing industry” causing investors to loose tremendously, and as a result abandoning the trading. The walls came crashing. Now we have a president who is ready and wants to permanently reform the financial market, to avoid another crash, but unfortunately, the Republicans want things the old fashion way, the way the party benefits from, while Americans loose their dreams. A financial reform would increase capital flow, make credit available to millions of Americans and restore a “sinking nation”. Is this not what every American should desire? Should we not all be up in arms, fighting these selfish, anti progressive Republicans and Wall Street? A time for reform is overdue. It is Wall street and they banks, who got bailed out by government, in hopes that they make money or credit available to Americans, the reason we are all suffering today. Their refusal to loan out money to businesses and individuals created the recession. They do not care if America collapses, so long as they make their profits. A new reform to prevent this from ever happening again is most necessary. This is a war between Americans and Wall street and their supporters. And we know who they are from their utterances- Republicans. How can we all be held in severe, economic bondage, while Republicans wine and dine with our jailers?

The terrorist Nigerian connection

Yesterday arrest of the Northwest airline passenger, beleived to be of Nigerian origin, is a wake-up call to all Nigerians and the Nigerian government, to stand up and fight against this, misguided activity called global terrorism. As if Nigeria’s name has not been soiled enough on credit card scams and other scams, this bastard has dragged the name further into, mud, shit and almost blood. a cab driver called me today to tell me about the stereotypical comments passed by his passengers against Nigerians. As if the media does not have enough reasons to be critical of Nigerians, this is one great, giant,ugly hubble to overcome with Nigerians, in repairing their names, from the past.

In my many writings, I have warned Nigerians to stay clear of terrorism and the dangers of being pulled into it, out of poverty and greed. While Nigerians are not saints, this latest involvement in terrorist plotting is a big, wake-up call for all Nigerians and the government. The possibility of a Nigerian joining terrorists because of money is there. Hardship and the Nigerian government inability to tackle corruption, have left many Nigerians so hungry for survival that they can literally “cut off their legs to feed their mouths”. The most shameful of it is that government officials live in affluence amid this disaster across the nation. Death finds its victims in great numbers daily. American and British government have been too accomodating of every successive, Nigerian government. It is time that both western nations apply meaningful pressures on Nigerian government, for change. An economically depressed nation like Nigeria is a solid, recruiting ground for terrorists and other evil, menacing groups around the world. This equally applies to other nations, where its leaders are simply serving themselves while their people perish. They should either take steps to assist the nation or nations usher in new, breed of leaders or give their present leaders conditions, to trade with them.

Back to this Umar Farog, I do not really care if his name is misspelled, I seriously doubt his origin to be Nigeria. He is either a terrorist agent positioned in Nigeria by a terrorist group, as in the case of Kenya, or one of these children of Arab immigrants who have adopted Nigeria as their home, in the past two decades.. Except lured by money, I sincerely doubt any Nigiria with long birth lineage will participate in this global terror. I URGE THE media and Americans to exercise restraint in branding the average Nigerian. There is more to this young man’s identity than we currently know.

Recoverying America

No doubt, America’s economy is in serious shape. The actions and decisions made over the past 8 years of George Bush and Dick Cheney are finally bringing forth fruits. Real non edible fruits .You cannot eat these ones. And Americans are the victims of bad administration. When Dick Cheney commented about president Obama not knowing what he is doing, I shook my head, and wondered what his administration could show as their one unigue achievement. None. The 911 attack happened on their watch. The did not foresee it. The economy crumbled on their watch. The did not foresee it. And when it was so obvious, they were still in denial. The president , George Bush, seemed unaware that gas price had hit over $4 per gallon, in some states.

We must leave the past alone, though, except if folks like Dick Cheney continues to make utterances that cause us to look back.We must find a way to move forward. Politics must be set aside for a while, while we act as concerned citizens, to recover our nation from a big financial decline. America is just dangling in the air,they jobs unable to return. If you look or drive through many Business areas, you will realize so many industries are simply gone. Some are gone overseas and some, under. America needs a new wave of investment in new industries, to regain the jobs. The federal government should move to spend at least a billion for each state, in building new industries. Diversified industies financed by the federal government is the one measure that will release the econoy from this job creation glitch. Small scale industies in every state. Individual entrepreneurs leading the way for this new industrialization while government is providing the funds and assisting in finding global markets for the finished products. The case of the solar panel is essential, as many African countries are struggling with hydro energy.

Health Care Reform

For decades we have gone everywhere and spent huge fortunes, fighting what we think are the enemies. We have said or rather claimed we are fighting to protect American lives and all the democratic ideals we cherish.

In the process of fighting our enemies abroad, we have lost many lives. A price that is unavoidable- people die in wars. There are those who would support any wars no matter the degree of justification. They would raise the flag and fight those who are opposed to the war, as they did not so long ago with the Iragi war. Factly, George Bush won a second term because he showed he was determined to fight in Iraq. Many Americans cheered him, only to find out later the reasons for war were manupulated. Yet they stood by him. In our quest to find the enemies abroad, we do not seem to realize or accept the fact that our most dangerous enemies are here with us daily, taking more American lives than any external foes have ever done. Our greatest enemies are the diseases and sicknesses, crimes, claiming our lives in thousands, if not millions yearly. Where are those who would die to protect American lives? Here is your opportunity to stand up for a health care reform that will save lives. Many of us are going around with ailments, today, untreated because we either cannot afford to see a doctor or have no insurance to cover the cost. If we can spend billions and trillions fighting our perceived enemies overseas, we ought to spend equally here at home to protect American Lives. The health care reform is a life-saving measure . Your mothers, fathers, siblings need it as much as mine, to live longer. If you are standing against it, you need to analyze yourself.

Wild wild Tennessee

It has been observed or rather known, for decades, that alcohol and driving are dangerous combinations. The outcomes have been obvious death and injuries, that most of the time, touch on the lives of innocent citizens. Lives cut short or serious injuries, by recklessness and impaired judgments. As if speeding with automobiles is not enough reason for accidents, those who drink and drive simply speed up their chances or possibility of dying untimely. And that is the same case with guns in bars and restaurants. The wild wild west is making a good come-back, compliments of the state of Tennessee. The state of Tennessee, in passing the bill that allows people to carry guns into bars and rstaurants, is fiddling with fire, plenty of real fire. Guns and alcohol are most certain to cause ” combustion” on our streets and businesses. It is the most dangerous thing our legislature has ever done, in its history. I wonder who or what insitutions are behind this crazy law. While I support gun ownership, it should be limited to one’s property, except in cases where one’s profession calls for constant gun totting, or one feels a genuine threat to his or her life.

This new law has not been carefully analyzed. Ask any police or security officer, we already have enough shootings around bars and clubs, that to give people unrestraint rights to leave their houses with guns, only add more fuel to an already burning situation. Our government ought to know better. THis law will only give people, sane and insane, excuses to carry guns around, and more likely use them, at the slightest of provocations, outside and away from bars and restaurants. The proximity or availability of a substance, material or weapon, encourages the quick use of same. Are we ready for more deaths on our streets and highways?

100 days of Obama’s presidency.

It is like the breathe of a fresh air. Just within 100 days of a new Obama presidency, many nations are changing from ” anti American” to “pro American”. One can feel the profound edgeness of Americans, on the propect of eminent wars with some unknown enemies, go away. An edgeness promoted and used by the previous administration, for political purpose. There is also a strong feeling that we are more secure than before. This could be attributed to president Obama’s style of leadership. He is quick to make decisions and quick to assume responsibilty on all issues, be they domestic or international. His confident approach to problems is greatly robbing off on the American people. He has handled foreign policy with grace and humility instead of arrogance. There is an African saying “that a dangerous, strong snake does not go about showing her teeth.”. The world knows we are strong. The know what we are capable of doing. We do not need to go about flaunting our might or strength.
Republicans call his approach “timid”, but I call them honorable. The more we attempted to confront leaders like Chavez, the more he sought the friendship and allignment with our “not so friendly nations” Now there is chance and need to bring back folks like Chavez and pursue foreign policies based on peace and mutual respect. No more axis of evil , just international diplomacy.
The economy would eventually recover and when it does, Obama’s presidency would go down in history as a unique, successful one, that brought us lots of glory and restored world peace. As Americans, we need to be very patient. Someone screwed things up and it would take time to clean up the mess. It is a huge one. Unfortunately, there were people who stood by and watched this happen. The same people that are offering advise and saying no to everything, including the breathe we take. We would breathe again, as a great nation.

The internet and our privacy.

I find it so strange and improper that the very government that is supposed to protect our rights has been violating it. The idea of posting every charge by the courts, on the internet, with the names, date of birth and other information, concerning people arrested by law enforcement, is a violation of right to privacy. The only reason every government would give is that these records are public records. There is no where in our constitution that says that public records should be published on the worldwide web. Government has the right to keep these records and individuals who need these records must show cause, why they want access to anyone’s private court documents. That was why the freedom of information act was enacted, in the first place. To publish people’s records on the internet not only violate their right to privacy, it exposes their information to theft. Little wonder identity theft is a booming crime. Thanks to our governments. If one can get your name, birth, place of residence, he or she does not need much more to steal your id, and our local, state governments are hiding behind the ” public records clause” to engage in publishing. The internet has caused us to loose any sensible control of our right to privacy because government does not understand publishing names does not serve any public good but assists the criminals. States should seek the people’s consent, in the form of propositions, before these kinds of action, and I strongly believe they would not get it, if people are allowed to vote on it. No one wants to have their DUI, accusations of theft, bar fights charges, etc, published on the internet, including judges. A lot of these charges are dismissed, but after one’s name has been sullied before the world.

Test on Patriotism

Everyone of us likes to claim he or she is more patriotic than the other person. We are angered when our patriotism is questioned. Republicans would rap the flag around everything they own. Many of us would engage in all manners of symbolism to show how much we love our beloved America. Words and symbols are insufficient, giving the extra-ordinary times we have been facing. President Kennedy, decades back, told us to ask for what we can do for our country and not what our country can do for us. He was asking for our sacrifice. And if there is any moment that sacrifice is urgently needed, it is now. Unfortunately, that has not been the case. Banks, even with tax payers money, have not acted promptly to rescue homeowners, knowing the ugly consequences of their actions. They hold the nation captive while many suffer and even die, and yet if you call the average bank CEO, he will tell you how patriotic he is. That, in my opinion , is a phony claim. Banks can be creative, in many ways, quickly re-negotiating loans, giving homeowners with lost jobs, a six to nine months, unpenalized holidays, to regain their financial balance. Manufacturing, service and retail businesses, instead of raising prices, can keep them at a price most affordable to the average consumer. That is sacrifice for one’s country. Cities, state governments, I.R.S, instead of adopting aggressive collection methods, piling up late fees and penalties on individuals and companies, should exercise restraint until people and small and large businesses are back on sound, strong , financial footings. Afterall, these are they very sources of future tax revenues. There are so many ways we can contribute, to lift up again, our failing economy. Those institutions and businesses that are profiting from the present ecoomic woes, by engaging in tactics or practices that further exploit a financially depressed American population, should be ashamed of themselves and are unpatriotic. America needs all of us now to make sacrifices. Are we ready to pass the test of patriotism?
